My Reasons

Out of the darkness and into the light
I will not give up this life, without a fight.
Some will say that I'm not too bright
And others will simply say I'm plainly not right.
Though despite all the frights
I will hold your hand through the nights
And fight for you, with all my life.

You ask me my reasons and I give you them now
To help move from the darkness and into the light
To be a beacon and guide through the night
To not abandon one who is trying to fight
To give and aid in the midst of a plight
To offer my life if it will banish the night
To be a solider fighting for right
To bring hope through the pitch of night.

When life threatens with death
And I draw that last shuddering breath
I will embrace the light
That, in this life, has been so far from sight
But I'll look back down, into the proverbial night.
At you and everyone else in sight
And I shall exclaim with some might.
"I can not leave life now, I must find a way back somehow!"
And I will let go of that light
To fall back into the blackest night.
And I shall return to help fight.

Then when all is done
And my life comes to its shuddering end
When all I have loved, I am sure are safe above
Hopefully then, I can be guided back to the place it all began
And return to those I left so long ago
To return, finally, to home.
